Bikers have a jol for charity

The potjie jol was a resounding success and the highlight of many motorcycle clubs' year so far.

A biker jol is not just about bikers having a good time with free food and drink, but about bikers coming together for worthy causes.

The Stingers Motorcycle Club (MC) recently hosted at Potjie Jol at the Heritage Boma where 57 other clubs joined in. The potjie jol was a fundraiser where non-perishable food, blankets and funds were raised for the West Rand Biking Association’s church.

The church hosts regular fundraisers because they support fellow bikers and community members who have lost their jobs and who are in need of welfare services.

During the fundraiser over 800 canned goods and around 100kg of toiletries were collected. An amount of R5 000 also was raised by the bikers with Bosveld Stereo also making a donation towards the fundraiser.

But the bikers did not leave empty handed. Apart from the great food they got to enjoy, a potjiekos winner was announced. Thys Swanepoel from Messiahs Disciples was the potjiekos champion of the day.

The club also decided to take hands with Solidarity’s Skooltassie project.

More and more parents are struggling to put food on the table and pay for basic needs, let alone pay school fees.

Solidarity started the Skooltassie project in 2007 after realising that so many Grade 1s enter primary school without the basics they require.

Every year Solidarity raises money through various projects throughout the country to give less fortunate Grade 1s a schoolbag filled with educational tools.

The women of Stingers MC have vowed to help pay for 500 schoolbags every month, which amounts to R200 per bag.

Overall the potjie jol was a resounding success and the highlight of many motorcycle clubs’ year so far.
