Boys robbed outside mall – disgusted with mall’s security

Bradley Smit from Krugersdorp writes:

I would like to highlighted that on 11 July my son and a friend were walking to Key West shopping centre. They had entered the side gate from Viljoen Street and were half way down the path with the mall in front of them when two males approached them from behind.

They pulled out knifes and instructed my son and this friend to give them their cellphones and money. Then they told the boys to turn around after which they ran off towards the mall. The boys approached the security guards and told them what had happened, however the guards did not seem interested and did not assist them or even requested any assistance from their control room.

The criminals were still on the property of Key West but the guards did not take any steps to try and apprehended them.

* General Manager of Key West, Karla Liebenberg responds:

We are most disturbed by this incident and reading about how our security, allegedly, reacted towards these young gentlemen¹s plea for assistance. We already have met with Mr Smit’s son who provided us with the necessary details for our investigation into this matter, which is under way at present. We have requested a follow-up meeting with Mr Smit’s son and are awaiting his confirmation of availability. Please be assured that Key West Management does not condone actions of this manner by any of its staff. This matter is receiving high priority.

  1. Can we please have a follow-up via the News. This is a disgrace and hopefully we will know the outcome of the investigation by the Mall management!
