Why not lend a helping hand, Krugersdorp?

It saddens me to think that there are only a handful of people in Krugersdorp willing to help their fellow citizen. The news recently decided to embark on a community project and asked the community for help, any help. Only a few responded. No action has been taken so far. Why is this? If anyone …

It saddens me to think that there are only a handful of people in Krugersdorp willing to help their fellow citizen.

The news recently decided to embark on a community project and asked the community for help, any help.

Only a few responded. No action has been taken so far.

Why is this?

If anyone can answer this question, please do leave you comment.

Perhaps some have already answered my question by reverting back to the same old excuse of Apartheid, BEE and our corrupt government.

Perhaps it is time we start thinking about uplifting our less fortunate communities rather than sitting back waiting for something or someone to act.

The real question is, will you take the first step?

  1. I for one (and do not want to toot my horn by saying this, I do these things on the quiet and not with great fanfare but because I enjoy doing it) have, where and when I can responded to articles asking for help with regards to community projects on many occasions. Let me tell everyone there is NOTHING more fulfilling than to help others. I appreciate all articles in the News about the plight of others and try to assist. I know everyone does not always have money to spare – life is expensive, but surely a few rands here and there instead of another chocolate/cold drink – whatever unneccessary luxury can be used to help. Of course one must be selective – there is the old saying of “give a man a fish and he has food for one day, but teach a man to fish and he has food for life”. So, what I am trying to say by referring to this, is that there are people just sitting doing nothing themselves to better their situation, waiting for handouts. I have recently seen an article in the News about blacks in Kagiso who are busy with a community garden planting veggies for the poor people in their area – respect to them! They are next on my list for donations of seed etc. Why can’t, for instance people at Kroningspark not have done something like that YEARS ago? But that will mean they must work I suppose and it’s far easier to hold out a hand asking for things instead of doing something. Another fantastic example is of the recent article of a man called Sibaya (if I have his name correct!) who collects plastic etc etc to sell for recycling. That is a hard and almost thankless job but he is doing something to help himself and provide for his family. So somebody assisted him by designing a cart to carry his collections. Respect to this man – he does not sit and wait for handouts but actually did something. So it’s one thing to help but quite another when people are just lazy and just complain of how they struggle and wait for handouts. Poeple must also start thinking – if you do not have a job, cannot provide for your family etc, you should NOT have more children – you are causing them to suffer. Contraception is freely available everywhere today!

  2. I tend to agree with EMK. One likes to help but unfortunately some people will not try to do anything to make their lives better themselves. I myself prefer to help animal causes just because I know they cannot speak for themselves and are in a situation not through their own actions.
