Minister to address Kagiso protestors

During a meeting between the leaders it was agreed that Shabangu would address the Kagiso protestors.

Following a meeting between the Executive Mayor of Mogale City Local Municipality Koketso Calvin Seerane and Kagiso protestors on Tuesday 7 January, engagement was upped a notch when the Minister of Mineral Resources, Susan Shabangu was invited to address mining-related protests today, 10 January.

Nkosana Zali, municipal spokesperson says that the community of Kagiso Extension 1 has been up in arms since Saturday 4 January, protesting against blasting operations by Mintails in their neighbourhood.

“Residents’ complaints include walls of their houses cracking, dust fallout and noise.”

During a meeting between the leaders it was agreed that Shabangu would address the Kagiso protestors.

“Minister Shabangu will share her plan aimed at addressing the issues the municipality has brought to her attention on behalf of the community,” says Zali.

Seerane says that they are part of a responsive government and appreciate the minister’s swift response to their issues.

“This meeting is integral to our programme of ensuring responsible mining in our area.”
