Pedestrian dies after hit and run

After a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle, it seems that same vehicle was part of an accident a few minutes later.

A man in his late 20s was killed around midnight on 27 July after allegedly being involved in a hit-and-run incident near Leratong Hospital.

Paramedics who responded to the scene of the incident found that the young man had suffered extensive trauma and had already died due to the nature of his injuries prior to their arrival.

He was declared dead on scene.

Within minutes there was a call about a collision involving two light motor vehicles, 100 metres down the road from where the pedestrian was killed at the intersection of the R558 and the R41 roads. It is believed that one of the vehicles involved in the collision was the vehicle that had knocked down the pedestrian a short distance away.

One patient who had suffered minor injuries was transported to hospital by the local provincial services, while the other patient suffered no physical injuries and did not require further medical attention.

Local police are investigating whether these two incidents are linked and the details of each.
