Fire outbreak at landfill site: Cause identified

The waste Management Operations team identified the cause of the fire outbreak at the Luipaardsvlei Landfill site over the weekend.

Following a fire at the Luipaardsvlei Landfill Site on Saturday 26 August, the Mogale City Integrated Waste Management Operations team confirms that they were on site on August 28 to investigate the cause and confirm that a brief progress was made.

Waste Management Operations would like to reassure residents adjacent to the landfill site that no residential areas are currently under threat due to the fire that took place on Saturday.

Additionally, as a means of minimising inconvenience for residents and ensuring that daily operations at the landfill site are minimally affected, the operations team identified a small suitable portion within the landfill site that will be utilised in the interim.

This identified area is currently being prepared to ensure the safe disposal of waste for members of the public and waste services personnel. The municipality therefore appeals to residents to not visit the landfill site and dump illegally while work is underway. Residents will be notified once this site is safe and ready for public use.

The Integrated Waste Management team would like to convey its gratitude to residents for their patience, co-operation, and understanding over the weekend. MCLM will also continue to provide updates and plans concerning the matter.
