OPINION: ‘God wants to help’

Worrying is part of our everyday living, but that is not how God intended you to live.

He wants you to live with the freedom to know He is in control. Worry divides the mind. The Biblical word for worry (Merimnao) is a compound of two Greek words, Merizo (to divide) and Nous (the mind).

Anxiety splits our energy between today’s priorities and tomorrow’s problems. Part of our mind is on the now; the rest is not yet. The result is half-minded living.

I have been reading Psalm 23 and discovering new truths about how God wants me to hand over the worry, the pain, the unknown, and the hurts I have been carrying.

We read in Psalm 23:1 ‘The Lord is my Sheppard, I shall not want’.

What does the poet mean? David means that because he has recognised the Lord as a shepherd over his life, he knows he will lack for nothing. He trusts God. And he trusts God to go with him everywhere and to provide what is needed every time.

He has confidence that he will always have more than enough. He has hope that whatever happens to him as his life unfolds (and a lot would happen to him), he will always know that God would provide for him.

We can trust God with our lives no matter how unsure our future is. You may not be able to see His hand right now, but you can always trust His heart.
