LETTER: Mananto Academy turns 6!

• Thabile Mange writes:

On Thursday, February 2, 2023, Mananto Academy based in Kagiso, turned 6. The academy is referred to as the ‘Harvard’ of Mogale City. This is because of the high standard of the academy.

In the past few years, preschools mushroomed throughout the country. For many of those who started these schools, it was a way of surviving the scourge of unemployment or increasing their income. But when Sina Nanto entered the preschool space, for her, it was about the development of young minds. Nanto has revolutionalised and shaken the preschool industry.

Born in Mohlakeng and relocated to Kagiso, she worked for a bank and enjoyed herself. However, at some point, she felt suffocated and left her cushy job. She then started the academy and called it Mananto. When Mananto Academy started, it attracted kids from local and afar. This is because of its unique character and creative curriculum, which empowers young kids to be articulate and confident. I suppose this is what many parents want for their kids.

In a very short space of time, it gained a reputation.

As a result, many parents took their kids out of expensive academies in town and took them to Mananto. And they did not regret that decision. Their children are in good hands.

Mananto is very innovative and creative. She has introduced uniforms for her young learners. Parents love it because they don’t have to worry about the clothes their children have to wear going to the academy. Not long ago, she faced a myriad of challenges. Last year, there were spates of break-ins in the academy. However, that has not dampened her spirit. Instead, she remains resolute to continue with the business.

Her vision is big and scary. She wants to build a private school (from Grade 1 to Grade 12) in the township. When she talks about it, her face lightens up. This shows that she is passionate about education.

Lastly, she has changed the face of the preschool academies in Kagiso. As a result, many are following in her footsteps and improving their service. This is to the benefit of children.

Happy six years to Mananto Academy.
