Hostage situation, shooting at Kagiso school: learners counselled

The Kagiso Police and numerous stakeholders visited Kagiso Secondary School after a knife-wielding man held teachers hostage, before being shot and killed by a teacher.

The Kagiso Police and stakeholders visited Kagiso Secondary School following a hostage situation and shooting that took place recently.

On Friday morning, February 3, a teacher shot and killed a knife-wielding man who allegedly held staff hostage at the school.

Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya said the police’s social crime prevention unit visited the school the same day.

Engagement with other stakeholders was fruitful,” he said.

The stakeholders included the Department of Education (Gauteng West District), social development, teacher unions, the Department of Health, local government, numerous non-profit organisations, and pastors from different denominations.

Captain Sibiya said the purpose of the event was to counsel the learners and teachers who witnessed the incident unfolding. During the event, the suspect who held teachers hostage with a knife was shot and killed by a teacher.

The event also enabled different stakeholders and partners to further strengthen their relationship.”
