Pastor to lay down pen after 40 years.

Pastor Gerrit Mes will now lay down the pen he was given in 1983. That's 40 years ago!

• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:

In January 1983 I had a call from the first editor of the Krugersdorp News, David Raath. He asked me if I would kick start the year with a single article. Hesitantly I picked up the pen and wrote my first article entitled, “Time, your greatest enemy”. David loved it, published it and asked for just one more. The rest is history.

Today, 40 years later, I have decided to pick up the pen for the last time.

Now I would like to thank my dozen or so editors, sub-editors and an army of reporters for their love and support. To a multitude of friends, many of whom I have never met in person but appreciated these articles and became my Krugersdorp News family and friends. To my wife who edited and typed more than 2000 articles before they were finally published. Thank you! To Caxton that gave space in this paper and, for a season, the Randfontein Herald, Roodepoort Record and the Outeniqualander in the Cape. If God gives you a talent and people give you an opportunity, use it to serve others, not yourself.

I wish you all a prosperous 2023 and beyond. See you in the malls, and streets of our great city.

P.S Don’t be surprised if one day a book compiled of some of these articles is printed. No promises. After 40 years, 2000 or so articles, I now lay down the pen I was given in 1983. God bless Mogale City. Gerrit Mes.
