In the first incident, and according to Magaliesburg Police Spokesperson Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere, Warrant Officer Bennie Mckittric and Sergeant Reuben Minies received a complaint from a concerned community member at about 01:10 regarding a suspicious-looking motor vehicle driving around the Ga-Mogale location.

“Members immediately responded and spotted the vehicle that matched the description. Two suspects were found in the vehicle where the suspects as well as the vehicle were searched. Upon further investigation, one firearm with a filed serial number, one magazine and 17 rounds of ammunition were found inside the vehicle. Both suspects failed to take responsibility for the firearm and were unable to produce a license or permit to possess a firearm and were immediately arrested and attained at the Magaliesburg police station.”

Hours later, at about 04:00 that same day, another suspect aged 26 was arrested for being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle on Rustenburg Road next to a building material supplier in Magaliesburg.

Again, Warrant Officer Mckittric and Sergeant Minies stopped a white Toyota Quantum for a routine search and the driver was found alone in the vehicle.

“They found the ignition tampered with and the dashboard damaged. The driver did not produce the vehicle’s keys and also failed to explain who was the owner of the vehicle. He was immediately arrested and detained at the Magaliesburg police station as well.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court soon.

“The community is the eyes and ears of the police,” said Magaliesburg Police Station Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mawewe Vuma.

He added, “Let’s keep the momentum high to prevent crime and promote safety in our community”.
