Illegal miner killed during police sting operation
At least one illegal miner was shot dead by police and multiple others were injured while trying to escape during a sting operation near West Village on Tuesday.

Shawn Herbst from Netcare 911 said in a statement that Netcare 911 responded to a shooting at an unused mine off the R28 in Luipaardsvlei after noon on Tuesday, August 2.

“Reports indicate that various law-enforcement agencies together with mine authorities held a sting operation.”
During a gun battle between zama zamas and authorities an illegal miner was shot in the head after pointing a firearm at police.
Multiple other illegal miners were injured while trying to escape.”
Medics on scene assessed the man and found that he had sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on the scene.
