Vigilant constables catch man with unlicensed firearm, ammo

The 33-year-old man was unable to produce any documents to prove ownership.

A 33-year-old man who was stopped during a routine search recently appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Krugersdorp Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane explained that Constables Lesiba Chokoe and Lucky Khunju were busy with routine patrols in the Krugersdorp CBD at about 20:50 on Tuesday, April 26 when they noticed a suspicious white Volkswagen Polo at the corner of Commissioner and Kruger Streets. They stopped the vehicle and while searching it they found a 9mm pistol, a magazine and eight live rounds of ammunition.

The man was unable to produce any documents to prove ownership.

The members arrested the man for being in possession of the unlicensed items and he was detained at the Krugersdorp Police cells. He appeared in court on Thursday, April 28 and the case was remanded to May 4 for a formal bail application.

Krugersdorp Police station commander Brigadier Xaba was pleased with the two members’ dedication and commitment, also for ensuring that those who go against the law are brought to book especially because most of the murder cases reported to the Krugersdorp Police recently involved firearms.
