Young man caught with firearm, ammunition and drugs

A man aged 21 was arrested by local police for being in possession of an illegal firearm, ammunition and 188 plastic packets of compressed dagga.

The Kagiso Police recently arrested a 21-year old man from Swanieville for drug dealing and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson explained that their crime-prevention members received a tip-off about someone who was selling drugs in the Mayibuye section in Swanieville early on Saturday morning, 6 February.

He said the members responded to the tip-off and went to the address where they found the 21-year old suspect.

Police began searching for drugs but instead uncovered what they never expected – a 9mm pistol with five rounds of ammunition.”

They also found 188 plastic packets of compressed dagga with an estimated street value of R1 500. The police arrested the suspect and a case of possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and drugs was opened at the Kagiso Police.

“Working and assisting police with information always yield the best arrests. I want to thank concerned residents for their positive contribution. I also want to applaud our members for responding swiftly and decisively to the information that led to removing a firearm from the wrong hands,” praised Brigadier Themba Maduna, the Kagiso Police station commander.

The suspect appeared in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody for further police investigation.
