Cash-in-transit security guard allegedly robbed

It is alleged that the men followed a cash-in-transit employee into the shop and robbed him of an undisclosed amount of money.

The News went out to a crime scene in the Krugersdorp CBD on Wednesday afternoon where a security officer from a cash-in-transit (CIT) van was robbed.

Witnesses at the scene alleged that they had seen the cash-in-transit vehicle being parked outside a clothing store and one of the security officers getting out of the vehicle and walking into the shop, presumably to pick up money. While walking out of the shop an unknown number of men allegedly robbed him, and ran to the area behind the shop with an undisclosed amount of money. At this stage it is unclear whether the robbers used a getaway vehicle or fled on foot.

Police were on scene conducting investigations.

While on scene, News journalist, Natasha Pretorius requested comment from the Krugersdorp Police spokesperson, Captain Raymond Sebonyane who was at the scene. He said he did not have all the information yet, and had to pass on the request to the Provincial Police spokesperson before he could share any information with the News.

Provincial spokesperson Kay Mukhubela confirmed that he would update the media as soon as the information is available.
