#KrugersdorpMurders – remaining three to learn their fate this week

The remaining three murderers in the Krugersdorp killings case will learn their fate this week after evidence in mitigation and/ or aggravation have been heard.

After a long and emotional trial the remaining three accused in the case of the #KrugersdorpMurders are back in court this week where they eventually will hear their fate.

On 3 June, Judge Ellem Jacob Francis found Cecilia Steyn, Marcel Steyn and Zak Valentine guilty on a total of 32 counts. The charges include murder, fraud and racketeering.

The other three accused in what is also known as the case of the Electus per Deus (Chosen by God) killings have accepted a plea bargain and have already been sentenced.

Marinda Steyn, mother of Le Roux and Marcel, pleaded guilty and was handed down 11 life sentences. She is serving 115 years’ imprisonment.

Le Roux turned state witness and testified against his sister, Marinda and Cecilia. He is currently serving 35 years in prison, of which 10 years were suspended on condition that he testified.

Another member of the group, John Barnard is currently serving 20 years’ imprisonment.

Judge Francis explained that when Marinda testified, she tried to convince the Court that she was in charge of the group, seemingly to make things easier for Marcel and Cecilia.
