Imagine R145 million …

Pastor Gerrit Mes; from the pulpit.

One lucky (we think) person recently won R145 million on the Lotto.

Very few of us haven’t fantasised about what we would do if we won that much money. Surveys done in America revealed that winning the lotto may, however, not be as lucky as we think. Many of the winners said years later they wish they had never won the money.

On a Kulula flight years ago, I read some words that stuck in my mind: “Money cannot fill a vacuum in our lives, in fact, money in itself can create a vacuum”.

Yes, money is important to our happiness but money can lead to a false happiness. The Bible puts it so well, “The love of money is the root of all evil.”

Not money itself, but our love of it. I share with you my Facebook post from a few days ago.

I wrote, “Today I found out why I have never made the Forbes 500 richest men on earth list. They do not put into the equation priceless things. Things like faith, family and friends. So now I know I am one of the richest people alive. I have priceless assets and all of you are part of my great treasure of life. Thank you.”

Don’t wait to win the Lotto, you may be richer than most with things that are priceless.

Count your blessings – faith, family and friends.
