How I survived without water

How to survive on minimal water in a dystopian future

Yes, dear readers, I too have been sitting with my hands in my (dirty) hair waiting patiently for Mogale City to repair the burst water pipe.

For two days, my husband and I have had to live like survivors of the apocalypse, so I thought it best to share my top water-saving tips with you. You might not realise it now, but one day we will live in a world where a war is raging over the precious commodity that is water.

So here goes! How to survive on minimal water in a dystopian future:

• Make friends with people living in a town which has water. Make sure you pack your toiletries and extra bottles to fill up with water. While you’re there, why not utilise their washing machine and get some laundry done?

• If you work in another town which has water, take your toothbrush along and quickly sneak a brush before you start working.

• Visit the local mall and ask each restaurant for one of their hand sanitising wet wipes. These work best for a quick wipe down before bed.

• If you are fortunate enough to have a little water, start acting like a bird. Have you seen how a bird can clean itself with a small amount of water?

All jokes aside, there are many ways of making do with a small amount of water, – trust me, I know what I am talking about.

But the real message I want to get across is that if we do not drastically start to save water, we are facing a certain future with limited supply of water.

It has been tough and yes, after day two I have become frustrated at the idea of going home and possibly finding my taps still dry.

I just hope that the water outages we have in Mogale City turn out to be valuable life lessons for us all.

#SavewaterKrugersdorp! We have to … full stop!
