This past weekend I started working on my physical fitness.

I joined a very elite family … the cycling community!

If you were cycling in the Cradle of Humankind this weekend, in Kromdraai to be exact, I was the spastic slow-poke on the blue bike.

Please bear with me, I am a complete newbie when it comes to cycling and so far the cycling community has been very accommodating.

I must add, cycling in the Cradle is absolutely breathtaking. I did not feel unsafe or threatened at any time at all.

Motorists were courteous and other cyclists would greet us and even point out obstacles on the road as they rode on by. I am sure it’s standard procedure but it made me feel right at home.

Not to mention the beautiful scenery which makes up for the stiff legs I have this week.

My goal is to take on the 947 Cycle Challenge next year.

Do I see myself actually doing so? Not at this stage, but I am staying optimistic – it really is still early days. Are there any words of wisdom out there from skilled and seasoned cyclists? Leave me comment, I would love to know how you started out.

To the rest of my new cycling family, I will see you out on the road!

Have a great week, Krugersdorp!

Only 19 days (and counting) until Christmas!
