Flying squad swoops in on alleged robbers

A tip-off led the Flying Squad to a car whose occupants were heading out to a planned robbery in Krugersdorp.

The five men who were allegedly on their way to committing crimes in Krugersdorp had their joyride cut short on the afternoon of Monday, 21 November, when members of the Kagiso Flying Squad were tipped off about an impending robbery.

The men and women in blue took to the streets to search for the mysterious vehicle and its occupants.

They stopped a car in Azaadville that was on its way to Krugersdorp and discovered that the five occupants inside the vehicle matched the descriptions given by their whistle-blower.

Police searched the vehicle and found two unlicensed firearms. They then arrested the five men for the possession of illegal firearms. “Further charges cannot be ruled out at this stage,” said the provincial communications spokesperson, Captain Mavela Masondo.

According to a trusted source, a further suspect, a woman, was also arrested. All suspects are also allegedly from Soweto.
