What an adventure!

I’m back from my two-week European adventure! It was amazing and everything lived up to my expectations.

I just cannot believe that one of the items on my bucket list, something my husband and I saved for for 15 months, flew by in 14 days.

Wow!

But it is great to be back, because there is no place like home. I feel the need to list a few reasons why I think it is good to be back home, so here goes:

• First and foremost, South Africans are much friendlier than Europeans!

• It goes without saying that the cost of living is much cheaper in South Africa than in Europe.

• In Europe they rarely eat beef and in South Africa you can eat it almost every day!

• Most Europeans live in tiny flats or apartments and those who can afford a house or townhouse are in the minority. In South Africa we are fortunate to have large gardens and wide open spaces.

• If you want to use a public toilet in Europe, you have to pay almost R16 (which amounts to 1 Euro). In South Africa most of our public toilets are free to use.

Europe was truly an amazing experience for me and it is something I wish everyone could see. What stood out the most was how well everything was maintained and taken care of. It made me realise that the Europeans are tremendously proud of their heritage.

I came to the conclusion that even though I only saw a small part of the world, if I don’t change the world I live in for the better, what type of heritage would I be leaving behind?

I am a proud South African and will always try to make a difference in my community – that’s the lesson I learned on my European adventure.

What lessons are you learning, Krugersdorp? Something to think about …
