Man arrested for stolen firearm

A firearm that was stolen in Mpumalanga was found during a stop-and-search operation in Tshepisong.

A man was arrested for possession of a stolen firearm and ammunition on Sunday, 21 August in Tshepisong.

During a stop-and-search operation, Kagiso Police noticed a black Toyota Corolla and stopped it. The vehicle and driver were searched and a firearm was discovered.

Upon request, the suspect failed to produce any official documentation for the firearm. When it was established that the firearm had been stolen in Nelspruit in Mpumalanga in 2013, the 29-year-old suspect was arrested.

A case docket of possession of a stolen firearm and ammunition was opened at the Kagiso Police Station.

“We must take it upon ourselves to report unlicensed firearms.

These firearms cause uncertainty and discomfort in our communities,” said Kagiso Police Station commander, Brigadier Sipho Ngubane.
