Little stones in the road a big concern

Truck's cargo loss of little stones, a big worry for Traffic Department.

Recently the News and the Mogale City Traffic Department’s spokesperson, Papi Motaung, visited various roads in and around Krugersdorp where Motaung pointed out the dangerous conditions for motorists and how motorists create danger.

The loss of cargo, for example building material being transported by trucks, especially on Hendrik Potgieter Road, causes a major headache for the Traffic Department.

Another big concern is a patch of road covered in small stones, on the corner of Hendrik Potgieter and Furrow Roads.

Papi Motaung points out the threat that sand and stones pose to motorists.
Papi Motaung points out the threat that sand and stones pose to motorists.

According to Motaung, the stones, which are scattered along the road by trucks transporting building materials, pose a huge danger to motorists.

“The stones sometimes go airborne after being driven over, posing a threat of damage to the windscreens of other drivers’ vehicles, and also causing accidents.”

The stones and sand that fall off from the trucks are eventually pushed to the sides of the roads, due to the pattern travelled by motorists.

“It is the responsibility of the truck drivers and owners to secure their loads as they damage our roads.”
