Daniel is her top priority now

"Every day is difficult. I sometimes stop and wonder how Kevin would react if he saw our little angel. Some days are more difficult than others."

For widowed Kezia Mc Alpine, the birth of Daniel Kevin Mc Alpine was like a dream come true after her nightmare ordeal earlier this year when she lost her beloved husband.

Three months after the brutal murder of her husband, Kezia can hold her baby boy in her arms. The whole of Krugersdorp held Kezia in their prayers as she stayed strong for her unborn baby. And finally, on 4 August, baby Daniel was born with no complications.

“He is my life, it is the most amazing feeling ever,” she said about her baby boy.

She started off this emotional interview experience by thanking the community for its love and support in what can be considered both the most difficult and the most rewarding time of her life.

“It was so heart-warming to see that strangers could care so much,” Kezia said after many organisations, community initiatives, friends and family came to her aid.

The moment she held her baby for the first time, she knew she wanted to name him in honour of his father, Kevin Mc Alpine.

Kevin, together with two other Krugersdorpers, was murdered in May, when Kezia was six months pregnant.

“Every day is difficult. I sometimes stop and wonder how Kevin would react if he saw our little angel. Some days are more difficult than others.”

Luckily she has her mother, who is very much in love with the little bundle of joy, by her side.

“His birth is the best thing that happened to me.”

When the News asked Kezia why she had not been to any of the court appearances of the suspects who were arrested in connection with Kevin’s murder, she paused for a while before answering: “Things will be said in court that I won’t be able to ignore. In court, I will not be able to stop what is being said about that night and I don’t know if I am ready for it. Kevin was my hero and my safe haven and I cannot stake my future happiness on the outcome of the case.”

“Daniel is my top priority now,” she concluded.
