Anonymous tip leads to unlicensed firearm

Tarlton Police Station Commander applauds the community and the police for working together to combat crime.

A 25-year-old male was arrested in the early hours of the morning in an informal settlement following an anonymous tip-off.

On 22 July at about 6am, members of the community sent an anonymous tip-off to police, which led them to the young man in the Seroba informal settlement.

“It is alleged that a concerned member of the community alerted the police about a male who was suspected to be in possession of an illegal firearm. The police acted immediately and during the search at the given address, the officers found a 9mm pistol without a magazine,” Tarlton Police spokesperson, Constable Lucky Matome explained.

Upon further investigation police established that the unlicensed firearm’s serial number has been removed.

“The suspect was placed under arrest immediately as he could not give the police a satisfactory explanation.”

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon. Matome said more arrests cannot be ruled out yet.

“The Tarlton Police Station commander Lieutenant Colonel CP Tsoaedi applauds members and the community for working together.”
