Murder accused siblings’ mother also arrested

The mother will be added to the fraud case involving a man who faked his own death.

Two additional female suspects will make a brief appearance in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court this morning in connection with case of the man who ‘died’ in an incident in 2015 that has subsequently evolved into a R3,6 million life insurance fraud case.

The two women will take the stand briefly today, 25 July. One of them is the mother of Leroux and Marcelle Steyn, who are currently in custody as part of the foursome that stands accused of the murders of three Krugersdorp residents during May. This case is still under police investigation and detectives are working round the clock to tie up the loose ends.

On the day the siblings were taken into police custody for the murders, their mother was also arrested for being in possession of dagga. She was subsequently released on bail on 24 June.

The mother and her close friend were taken into police custody for intense questioning during this past weekend, according to a statement made by Captain Appel Ernst, the West Rand Police cluster spokesperson. They are believed to be in the age group 30–50. Their names will be added to the roll pertaining to the case of the 31-year-old male suspect who faked his own death in Petrus Steyn in the Free State, in December 2015.

It is believed that this man had been in hiding in Krugersdorp for several months, apparently somewhere close to the Steyn residence, before being arrested on charges of fraud, theft and bearing false identification. He is also facing a charge for the murder of the homeless Petrus Steyn man whose body was found in the burnt-out vehicle the latter accused used to fake his own death.
