Homeowner pointed at with her own gun

A homeowner's dogs were poisoned moments before suspects ransacked her house.

At 3am this morning (23 June), Natasha Botha was woken by a screeching sound from one of her dogs.

In her living room, she saw a man standing right across from her, pointing her own firearm at her.

Her instincts quickly kicked in and she ran towards the bedroom and closed the door. She pressed the panic button and called the local Community Policing Forum (CPF) for help.

Her screams caused the suspects to make a run for it. Her son, who was woken up by the noise, came running to her room, asking what was wrong.

Strangely enough the suspects had turned on all the lights in the house, except the one in her son’s bedroom, while searching for valuables.

Within minutes Sector 5 CPF, a security company and the local police were on her doorstep. They quickly searched the area for the suspects. They found a crowbar, a pair of pants and one of the owner’s firearms.

Two of her three dogs were found poisoned and have since died from a poison known as Two-step.

The suspects fled with three firearms, several laptops, a desktop computer, an undisclosed amount of cash and all the victim’s keys.

“Thank you CPF, Chubb and the police, for reacting so swiftly. I am thankful that my family is unharmed,” Botha said. She is however very upset about the price her two dogs had to pay for protecting them.
