Mogale City accounts can now be viewed online

Accounts will also be made available via email and SMSes.

Mogale City Local Municipality’s ratepayers can now receive their account statements via SMS, email or online at no cost.

This was announced recently on the Mogale City Municipality’s website.

“All account holders are urged to update their contact details by sending their active cell phone numbers and email addresses together with their account numbers to customerservices@mogalecity.gov.za or submitting them at their nearest Mogale City Local Municipality Revenue Office,” the announcement read.

Account-holders can also register to view and download statements online by clicking on View Online Statements on the website.

If your account number has fewer than 15 digits, you’re advised to add zeros before the number when you register online.

In July last year, the Mogale City Municipality found itself facing a monster that is now almost a year old and still plaguing ratepayer’s accounts. The municipality’s new R50 million billing system, which was introduced in July, is still not functional and municipal bills are still incorrect. This has forced the municipality to use two billing systems that do not correlate with one another. The News reported in November last year that the municipality had implemented the new system (Limms) with the intention of migrating from the old system (BIQ) because the old system was being used without paying its owner any fees.

BIQ owner, Danie van Heerden, agreed to let the municipality continue using the system until June 2016 so that it could sort out the technical difficulties experienced with the new billing system (Limms).

It is not yet clear if the new system will indeed be functional by June.
