Three youths arrested for firearm possession

Two school pupils and an older friend arrested for being in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

Two school pupils and a friend (all male) were arrested after a firearm was discovered at the home of a girlfriend.

Hekpoort police arrested the three suspects for possession of firearms and ammunition on 10 May.

The arrest follows after Detective Constable Qoboza interrogated a suspect who was in custody after being arrested the previous day by Sergeant Van der Berg.

The police obtained information that the suspect was in possession of an illegal firearm.

“The information was followed up, and led to the state high school. One of the suspects then confirmed that he had a firearm which he hid at his girlfriend’s place. Police went to the girlfriend’s residence with the suspects. There they retrieved a 7.63mm pistol, with its serial number erased. They also found one 7.63mm firearm magazine and two rounds of ammunition,” said Hekpoort Police spokesperson, Constable Gloria Maswanganye.

Detective Constable Qoboza arrested all three suspects, two of whom are 18-year-old pupils at the high school. The third suspect is 22 years of age.

The suspects are currently being detained in the Krugersdorp police cells as investigations are under way.
