[PHOTOS] Mass cleansing at horror crash site

The mass prayer was held to cleanse the stretch of road that saw 15 people lose their lives in a recent accident.

Two weeks after a horror taxi/truck crash claimed 15 lives, a mass prayer and cleansing ceremony was held at the scene of the accident.

The ceremony was arranged by SKP Media, the company that owns the billboard placed above the scene of the accident. Many tiny pieces of glass remained scattered across the road.

Ministers from different churches prayed for the road to be blessed and cleansed of fatal accidents.

“We have had a series of accidents on this road lately. We got various religious leaders together to help pray for and cleanse the road,” the company’s Managing Direcor, Tebogo Sekano, told the News.

On 4 May a memorial service and soul-calling ceremony led by Mogale City Women in Prayer was performed at the scene of the horror head-on collision, which took place on 29 April.

Mogale City’s MMC for Integrated Environmental Management and President of the Mogale Women in Prayer group, Nolunthando Mangole, said the ceremony is “A way of asking God to keep those driving on the road safe,” so that further accidents are prevented.

The Randfontein Herald reported that in this fatal accident, 15 of the 17 occupants of the vehicle, including the taxi driver Bheki Mkhize, lost their lives. At the time of his death, Mkhize was driving for the Randfontein Taxi Owners Association (RTOA).

Charles Mawela from SKP Media said the mass prayer ceremony, which saw various churches come together, will hopefully bring about awareness of what could happen because of reckless driving.

At about 10am the section of the R41 was cordoned off and hundreds of prayers went to those that lost their lives.

Traditional healers, priests and ministers all prayed at the scene where a taxi and truck collided, killing 15.
