Update: Horror crash claims fifth life

Family of five wiped out after horror crash on Robert Broom Drive.

Update, 9.44pm  on Saturday 7 May:

The News just confirmed that the four-year-old boy who was airlifted from the accident scene earlier tonight succumbed to his injuries.

According to reports, he had sustained serious injuries to his one arm and leg. The boy passed away before reaching a hospital for further medical treatment.

Robert Broom crash claims four lives

A four-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition following a horror crash on Robert Broom Drive earlier tonight.

The presumed the five occupants were allegedly driving on Robert Broom Drive towards Krugersdorp when the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with a palm tree on the island.

Community Policing Forum (CPF) members of various sectors, emergency services, Mogale City Traffic Department and Road Safety along with police were called to the scene at around 7 pm.

Residents in the vicinity of the scene alleged they only heard the impact of the crash but did not, however, hear the vehicle braking.

Upon arrival on scene, CPF patrollers found four bodies scattered along the road next to the wrecked vehicle.

Some of the bodies were found several meters away from the vehicle with some distance between them.

The two adults and two children were declared dead on scene by paramedics while the youngest child (4) was stabilized on scene and airlifted to hospital.

A section of Robert Broom Drive remains closed until the bodies have been collected and the wreckage removed.
