14 injured after another taxi crash

A few days after 15 people died in a head-on collision involving a taxi and a truck, 14 people were taken to hospital after a taxi and bakkie collided.

Fourteen people have been inured after a taxi and a bakkie collided on the corner of Main Reef Road and Chamdor Road in Lewisham last night.

The injured sustained moderate injuries and were taken to various hospitals in the area for further medical care.

“At about 9pm on Tuesday (3 May) night, Netcare 911 paramedics responded to an accident,” Athlenda Mathe, Media Liaison Officer for Netcare 911, said.

“Reports from the scene indicate that after colliding with each other, the taxi hit a dustbin and the bakkie crashed into a traffic light.”

Paramedics worked alongside other services on the scene to stabilise the injured.

In a similar incident, fifteen people have been killed after a large truck and taxi collided head-on on Randfontein Road in Randfontein on Friday (30 April). The Randfontein Herald reported that it is believed the driver of the taxi allegedly lost control and swerved towards the truck’s direction. After this tragic accident, bodies, covered in silver blankets, were seen strewn on the road.

Captain Appel Ernst, police spokesperson, confirmed that a case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
