Merc gang alert: Woman followed

A Chancliff woman believed she was followed by the elusive Merc gang.

Residents of Krugersdorp are warned to be on high alert because the Merc gang was spotted around town earlier today.

A woman luckily escaped what could have been an attack from the elusive Mercedes-Benz gang which clearly has its sights set on Krugersdorp.

After concluding her shopping at a shopping complex in Rant-en-Dal, a woman noticed she was being followed by a white Mercedes SUV.

She was on her way to her Chancliff home when she noticed the Merc, with four occupants, following her every move. She was heading down Clifford Street and as she was turning left, the Merc followed.

Only when she skipped a stop street, and the Merc following shortly behind, did she realise she might be the gang’s next victim.

Instead of heading towards her mother in-law’s house in the area, she drove towards the R28 where she managed to lose them.

She decided to drive to Silverstar where she approached a Mogale City Traffic Department officer in a traumatised state.

He acted quickly and contacted the police and local Community Policing Forum who came to the scene within minutes.

A statement was taken from her and she was accompanied back home by a police officer.

Police is currently on high alert and the Krugersdorp Trio Task team has been instructed to assist the matter along with local detectives.

Women traveling alone are warned to be extra vigilant when leaving local malls and shopping centres since the gang’s modus operandi is following women home where they attack and rob them of their belongings.

On Wednesday, 13 April, a woman was followed home and as she approached her driveway to meet her husband, one of the gang members opened fire and shot him in his stomach.

Since there are no other similar reports of the Merc gang’s presence around Gauteng, police have reason to believe the gang is solely focusing on targeting the Krugersdorp area.
