Merc-gang involved in another armed robbery

Another woman's rings were forcibly removed from her fingers in an armed robbery incident over the weekend.

A couple survived being shot at after suspects fired two rounds at them while fleeing in a Mercedes-Benz after an armed robbery incident.

The couple returned to their home in Rant-en-Dal when they noticed the white Benz C Class in their driveway as they opened their garage door on 10 April just after noon.

The next moment two suspects jumped out of the Benz and approached the couple and started searching them for their personal belongings.

“The couple was robbed of their money and personal belongings in Struben Street. They were surprised when unknown males approached them with firearms, from both sides of the vehicle. The suspects allegedly instructed the female victim to open the window and they sprayed her husband with pepper spray,” Krugersdorp Police spokesperson, Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale said.

They started grabbing items from the vehicle along with the woman’s jewellery.

It is believed that her rings were ripped from her fingers similar to previous incidents the News reported on.

Mashale said one of the suspects then reversed the Benz into their driveway to load all the stolen goods.

“As they fled, one of the suspects fired two gunshots at the couple, one of which hit their vehicle.”

The Benz then quickly fled and disappeared onto Robert Broom Drive.

Patrollers from the Sector 3 Community Policing Forum (CPF) along with police and EPR quickly responded to the call out of the armed robbery.

Fortunately no-one was injured during the incident.

Krugersdorp police urges the community to be alert when driving to their homes and to be vigilant for any suspicious vehicle that might be following them to their destination.

“Call the police immediately or drive to an area where there are activity such as a garage or shopping area. Similar incidents have been reported in the previous weeks and our community’s safety is our primary responsibility,” Mashale concluded.
