Assaulted for a cell phone and cash

A man was attacked by two unknown suspects for a cell phone and cash in Sivewright Street.

The Railway Police arrested a suspect who allegedly assaulted and robbed a driver who stopped in Sivewright Street.

According to the victim, he was driving with a friend down Sivewright Street, known for its notorious crime, when they were approached by two unknown males on 14 February.

“It is alleged that the two unknown males started to threaten the driver and assaulted him with an object to the head before starting to beat him,” Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale, Krugersdorp Police spokesperson said.

The suspects then stole the car radio, cash and a cell phone before fleeing the scene when they spotted the police.

Later during the day the victim pointed out one of the suspects to police who immediately gave chase.

A 23-year-old suspect was caught and arrested in Luipaard Street.

The suspect will appear in court facing charges of robbery and possibly assault.
