Robbery suspect caught almost three years later

An alleged house robbery suspect was arrested nearly three years after committing the crime.

A 41-year-old suspect was arrested earlier this month in connection with a house robbery incident that took place almost three years ago.

The arrest follows after a complainant and her family were threatened with a knife and firearm.

“It is alleged that the complainant was home with her sister and two siblings when suddenly two unknown men entered their house on 13 September 2013 at about 8.45am. The complainant was busy preparing to wash clothes in the bathroom when the suspects entered,” Kagiso Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya explained.

The suspects demanded to see her sister who was in the bedroom at the time, when he drew a knife and demanded money when she refused to wake-up her sister.

“The complainant’s sister overheard the argument and got up and allegedly went to the bathroom to search for something that she could use to protect her siblings.”

A second suspect took notice and followed her to the bathroom after which he drew a firearm and demanded cash at gun point.

She then handed over a bag with an undisclosed amount of cash along with six cell phones.

“The suspects thereafter fled the scene and no shots were fired.”

The first suspect was arrested late last year and the second suspect was arrested on 4 February. A case docket of house robbery has been re-opened.

The one suspect is due to appear briefly in court.
