Gold diggers arrested

A group of gold diggers were caught red-handed by vigilant watchdogs.

Four suspects were arrested last week for being in possession of gold bearing material after midnight on 4 February.

“It is alleged that seven suspects entered a mining premises with mining tools with the intention to dig up the gold bearing soil,” Krugersdorp Police spokesperson, Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale said.

The security personnel on site spotted the suspects carrying the bags and after which they gave chase.

“They managed to apprehend four suspects while three ran away.”

The police were called and the suspects were arrested.

The foursome is expected to appear in court on charges of illegal mining.
