Krugersdorp turning into the Wild West

A tongue and cheek response of a local political councillor about recent events in Krugersdorp.

Shortly before the airing of the documentary, Mogale – The brave One, about the increasing drug and prostitution crisis in Krugersdorp, the news of the suspension of one of Krugersdorp’s best detectives came as quite a shock.

This followed after the suspension of the Krugersdorp police’s Station Commander after the execution-style shooting incident of a robbery suspect by a Krugersdorp policeman made worldwide news.

“It is not good for the morale of the community when the pillars around them start to fall like this,” Amanda de Lange, Freedom Front Plus Leader for Mogale City, said.

The same scenario is playing itself off within the Mogale City Municipality with a number of officials in the most critical departments and positions on suspension for a number of reasons.

De Lange says this has a devastating effect on their remaining colleagues as there is no telling who is next.

In most of these instances the employees do return to work.

“Some after months of sitting at home receiving full pay while the work and service delivery in this town is at an all-time low.”

Most of these issues seems trivial and some simply appear to be a witch hunt.

According to De Lange, the management quality in many cases are substandard and proper resources should have been followed without compromising the daily operations of both these critical government components.

“This town has never been in a more dire need of proper police management than now. The same goes for the municipality. The water losses, bad financial management system with huge numbers of incorrect billings to property owners and many other infrastructure issues has reached an all-time low. With the one police Station Commander suspended, replaced by another who was transferred right after the documentary and replaced by a very inexperienced new station commander who was part of the team who suspended one of the most valuable and experienced chief of the detectives, raise many questions as to the agenda of those currently in charge.”

The participants in the documentary did a great job in bringing reality to the rest of the community.

“We now need action on the problem areas in this town and not eliminate those who have positive contributions to make because of ‘political’ games. As with the rest of the country, Krugersdorp is showing sure signs of moral decay and failure.

“Government institutes must start to own up to their responsibilities for this town and its residents.”
