Man critical after roll-over accident on R28

A middle aged man was taken to a nearby hospital to receive medical treatment for his critical injuries.

Sunday (17 January) afternoon at around 2pm, a middle aged man was flung from his vehicle as it rolled down the R28.

Henry Carson, the chairperson of Sector 8 Community Policing Forum saw how the car rolled onto the traffic island and how the man flung about 10 metres onto the island as well.

“I only saw smoke and saw how the car tumbled,” he said.

But not one of the three drivers that stopped at the scene were certain of what happened. One of the drivers said they saw the man driving at a high speed and another driver said he nearly collided with her car.

Minutes after Henry called in the accident, Netcare911 and ER24 ambulances were on the scene. The man, who was the only person in the hatchback, was lifted onto a stretcher and given medical assistance.

According to Netcare911 spokesperson Athlenda Mathe, the man had sustained critical injuries but he was stabilised when they took him to a nearby hospital.
