Bakkies left mangled after collision on R24

The R24 is also known as 'Die pad van die dood'.

Two men and two children were injured yesterday afternoon when two bakkies collided on the R24 outside the Krugersdorp Game Reserve near Tarlton.

ER24 paramedics responded to the scene and on arrival found the two mangled vehicles on the side of the road.

According to ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring, the male driver of the one bakkie was found lying in his vehicle in a critical condition while the male driver of the second vehicle was laying trapped inside, also in a critical condition. A boy (7) and girl (9) were found seated in the back of the second vehicle with moderate injuries.

“Paramedics began their treatment of the patients while rescue services used the jaws-of-life equipment to free the trapped driver.”
