Tarlton policing top notch

Two successful convictions and 15 arrests make for a good end of November for Tarlton's police station.

The Tarlton police station has raked in a few convictions and arrests towards the end of November.

Police spokesperson, Constable Lucky Matome, said in a press statement that these results are achieved by the thorough investigation by detectives like Constable Bontle Dlamini.

On 20 November, 25-year-old Jimmy Pogiso Sebese was found guilty of assault with intent of grievous bodily harm by the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court after attacking someone on 4 April this year.

“He was sentenced to two years imprisonment, or six months which was suspended for five years on condition that the accused is not convicted for the same offence or malicious injury to property during the period of his suspension,” Matome said.

In another assault charge brought against 32-year-old Thembile Mangolothi, the state managed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the accused committed an assault with intent of grievous bodily harm.

“He was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, or R6 000 fine, half of which is suspended for a period of five years on condition that the accused is not convicted on any offence relating to assaults,” he said.

For the past week, from 23 to 27 November, Tarlton’s police officers arrested more than 10 assault suspects in different cases.

The Station Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Tsoaedi expressed her concern with the number of assault cases reported.

“She urged the community not to solve their differences with violence but to rather seek police intervention,” Matome added.

She applauded detective Constable Bontle Dlamini for securing these convictions on the assaults and she also congratulated the National Prosecuting Authority for their commitment to eradicate crime.

“The sentences must be seen as a warning to people who are taking the law into their own hands,” she said.
