Runaway truck slams into taxi

Passengers inside an overturned taxi were lucky to be alive.

A taxi driver and his passengers are lucky to be alive after a truck’s brakes allegedly failed and slammed into the taxi.

The truck driver was travelling along Paardekraal Drive when its brakes allegedly failed causing it to crashed into a taxi which was stationed at the Luipaard Street and Paardekraal Drive intersection on 21 November just after 1pm.

With the impact of the crash the taxi, with its 10 passengers, overturned as the run-away truck struggled to stop.

The truck eventually came to a standstill at Pretoria Street close to President Square which is two intersection further down.

On arrival on the accident scene, patrollers of Sector 5’s Community Policing Forum, Mogale City Emergency Management Services and Mogale City’s traffic department assisted the passengers of the taxi who were standing scattered around the overturned taxi.

All the windows of the taxi also burst due to the impact of the crash.

The driver of the truck told patrollers on scene that he could not brake at the intersection.

Fortunately no-one was hurt during the accident and the passengers escaped with mere scratches.
