Armed suspect runs, but you can’t hide

An armed suspect flees for a second time as a staff member throws a rock at him for pointing a firearm at her colleagues.

An armed suspect caused quite a stir in Noordheuwel and Monument this morning.

Before the suspect was arrested, he was fleeing from a house robbery scene in Noordheuwel and also shot at a security guard and pointed his firearm towards two people in Monument.

Three armed suspects gained entry to a property in Vegkop Street in Noordheuwel and waited for the 63-year-old resident to return.

The suspects pointed their guns at the resident’s neck and took her inside her house where they demanded keys to the safe.

While the suspects ransacked the house looking for valuable items, the resident managed to escape.

As the suspects were out of sight, she quickly ran through a door leading outside and rushed to her neighbour’s wall and called for help.

The neighbour quickly alerted the Sector 4 Community Policing Forum who were on the scene in minutes.

At this point the suspects fled by foot and a Thompsons Security reaction unit was patrolling the area and coincidentally met up with one suspect running in Wolkberg Street who also fired a shot at a reaction officer.

The suspect crossed Voortrekker Road and entered a business premises in an attempt to hide.

On arrival at the business, the cleaner, who was busy mopping the floor, stopped the suspect in his tracks.

“No, no, no, you cant go in there,” the cleaner said to the suspect who then decided to change direction, but the cleaner stopped him again.

One of the staff member who came around the corner also stopped the suspect as she asked him what he was doing in their premises.

The suspect pointed his firearm at her, which caused her to shout in order to warn her colleagues. One of the managers came running around the corner and met up with the staff member.

Again the confused suspect pointed his gun, but quickly made a run for it as another staff member picked up a stone and threw it at him.

Luckily the suspect was cornered on the corner of Cilliers Street and Voortrekker Road by the reaction officer who instructed him to surrender.

The suspect was quickly arrested and the Krugersdorp police was deployed to the scene.
