Three children in overloaded vehicle accident

An alleged drunk driver crashed his overloaded vehicle, with three children as occupants, into a Ford Ranger bakkie.

Three children escaped with their lives after the vehicle they were travelling in, an overload Uno, collided with a bakkie on Voortrekker Road yesterday.

A Dowry reaction unit officer arrived first on the scene at around noon on 15 November.

The reaction officer quickly blocked off the road and called for back up from Sector 8’s CPF as well as paramedics, police and the local traffic department.

Eyewitnesses claim the driver of the vehicle reeked of alcohol at the time of the incident.

It is believed the Uno was travelling along Voortrekker Road in the direction of Krugersdorp when the driver switched from the left lane to right without giving any indication.

The Uno then collided with the bakkie which was turning into Voortrekker Road from Kloof Street.

The driver of the Uno was treated on the scene and later transferred to Leratong Hospital for further medical treatment for a injury to the head.

Another passenger had a bad cut from their eye to ear with the bone exposed refused to be transported to hospital for further medical treatment.

Fortunately the children in the vehicle were not seriously injured.

The News is trying to get a hold of a witness who captured the accident with his dash camera.
