Police arrest 233 in operation

The suspects were arrested for various suspected crimes committed.

During separate crime prevention operations done by the Krugersdorp Cluster Police last week, 233 suspects were arrested in connection with various crimes.

Police officers followed up on information, concentrated and patrolled crime hots pots and set up road blocks whereby they checked if all is well in town. Yet, in the last week during such an operation, these suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder and drunk driving to culpable homicide and drug dealing.

“Some where arrested for minor offences such as common assault and illegal immigration,” Constable Lucky Matome, police spokesperson, said.

Most of these suspects have made brief appearances in court.

The Krugersdorp Cluster Commander Major General Anna Mateisi afterward pleaded with motorists not to drink and drive.

“One fatality is too many,” she said.

According to the National Crime Prevention Strategy, crime prevention operations shift the emphasis from reactive crime control; which deploys most resources towards responding after crimes have already been committed, towards proactive crime prevention aimed at preventing crime from occurring at all.
