[VIDEO] House bought on blind faith

14 months of prayer led Cradle of Hope to the 'bright one'.

After several months of prayer and hope, Melodie van Brakel finally can say the bright one is the right one.

The second Cradle of Hope house recently acquired by founder Melodie will give the organisation the opportunity to help approximately 40 more vulnerable women and children.

Melodie finally signed the papers to purchase the property at 40 Nellie Street, a blessing for the organisation and ultimately the community.

“14 long months I have prayed. I nagged God for this house to enable us to help more people in the community. Thank you so much to every person who prayed with us. This is complete blind faith,” a relieved Melodie said.

But before the house can open its doors, it needs a serious revamp as it has been neglected badly.

The first on Melodie’s priority list is the roof, which needs to be fixed and painted and needs additional drain pipes. This will amount to around R110 000.

“We can not start restoring the house until we have fixed the roof. Next on the list is palisade fencing to secure the property.”

Besides the restoration work on the house, furniture such as beds also are needed.

The house will consist of offices and additional sleeping space, along with a study center that will be used for homeschooling and further education.

An area to receive donations and a storeroom are on the cards for the backyard and possibly an entertainment area for the women and children, along with additional sleeping space.

“Children can’t just be removed and put into the system. It is more important to heal mothers and teach them how to cope and in that way make sure the children are healthy and happy. We need to focus more on the mothers to help restore broken families,” Melodie said.
