Patroller injured in head-on collision in Noordheuwel

A CPF patroller unknowingly drove on route of a car chase and ended up seriously injured.

Last night (18 October), a Sector 7 Community Policing Forum patroller was injured in a head-on collision in Noordheuwel.

According to bystanders, the driver of a Bantam bakkie tried to overtake a vehicle and continuously tried to push the driver off the road. As the vehicles came driving down Rudd Street, a Sector 7 patroller and his son drove uphill in the other lane.

The driver of the bakkie then decided to overtake the car, and drove head-on into the patroller’s personal vehicle.

The patroller was seriously injured and taken to hospital by Netcare 911 and ER24 after Sector 7 called for help at around 6.15pm.

Mogale City’s Traffic Department showed up at the scene and added to the array of emergency lights that lit up that area.

“There’s a lot of police lights and cars at the scene,” one resident commented on an initial post regarding a possible accident on the Krugersdorp Community Forum page on Facebook.

The driver of the bakkie allegedly smelled of alcohol while he was tended to by a medical team.

Even though the reasons behind the accident is unclear, the News understands that a court case between the driver of the bakkie and the driver he tried to push off the road, is ongoing.
