One dead as car crashes into ditch

Three occupants make a run for it after the vehicle they were travelling in hit two pedestrians and crash landed in a ditch.

One person died and another was left seriously injured after a vehicle hit them and crash landed in the nearby ditch in the early hours of yesterday morning (11 October).

Members of the Sector 5 Community Policing Forum (CPF) were called out to the scene opposite the infamous Lime Lite Pub and Grub night club in Rustenburg Road where the vehicle was found overturned in the ditch.

Mogale City’s Emergency Management Services, police and paramedics arrived shortly thereafter.

One of the pedestrians were declared dead on scene and the other one was taken to hospital for serious injuries sustained.

Three of the four occupants of the vehicle allegedly made a run for it and was believed to be under the influence of alcohol.

“Alcohol abuse plays a big role in many similar incidents that has happened at this ditch,” CPF Sector 5 spokesperson, Deon Steyn, said.

The News has contacted the police who will release a statement later today.
