New meeting spot for Dynamix

The Dynamix Aftercare programme facilitators are making the meetings more accessible for all.

The Dynamix Aftercare programme, which aims to change the lives of people struggling with alcohol and drug addiction, is now in town and easily accessible for all.

Dynamix Aftercare programme was launched in conjunction with The Bethany House Trust and New Seasons Ministries in February. The programme aims to help people living on the West Rand who struggle with alcohol and drug addiction through free small-group sessions.

Pi Pretorius, a youth mentor at The Bethany House Trust said the programme also focuses on intervention, family support, aftercare and recovery.

The sessions are held every Saturday from 2pm to 3pm at The Bethany House Trust at 19 Potgieter Street in Monument, and now also will be at the Tower of Life in Church Street.

Desire Harmse, New Seasons Ministries’ secretary for the Dynamix-group said Dynamix is not a rehab facility but rather a support group for families and the youth. However, some changes had to be made to accommodate everyone.

“At the moment the attendance of the Saturday afternoon meetings fluctuate from two to 30 attendants,” Pi said.

He said the facilitators realised only people with their own transport were able to attend the meetings in Monument. Therefore they started meeting in town for those who do not own a car and had to walk far to attend the meetings.

“It is very central,” he said.
