Man burns partner at home

A man will soon appear in court for charges of attempted murder and arson.

A man was arrested by police after he set his shack alight – leaving his partner hospitalised for five months.

The 53-year-old male was arrested for attempted murder and arson.

“It is alleged that the incident happened on 8 February,” police spokesperson, Constable Lucky Matome, said.

The victim told police that she had a domestic dispute with her husband, the suspect. The dispute then led to him throwing a burning paraffin stove at her. Their shack then caught fire and the 45-year-old woman was badly burned.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court.

In separate incidents during the station’s crime prevention operations over the weekend, 15 suspects were also arrested for a variety of crimes ranging from dealing in dagga, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and driving under the influence of liquor. The operation also resulted in the closing of seven illegal liquor outlets.

“A large amount of liquor and 50 dagga parcels were also confiscated,” Matome added.
